Quick answer: If you want to find people to play padel with, not just a free court, start with Playtomic (open matches at partner clubs, filtered by level; the biggest network in Europe), then add Padel Mates (game finder, level-based match suggestions and community groups, strong in the Nordics and the UK) or Anybuddy if you're in France, Belgium, Spain or Switzerland. MATCHi is excellent for booking in Scandinavia and the UK but is more booking-first than partner-first. Gameli is a free multi-sport option for open games where club apps are thin. ZONDI is the partner-first option: you post the game you want ("padel Saturday 10:00, need two, intermediate"), players nearby join, and you sort the court together. It's live in Malta, with early access in Valencia, Barcelona and Limassol.
Booking app or partner app? The difference that matters
Most "best padel apps" lists rank court-booking apps. Booking a court is rarely the hard part. The hard part is finding three other people, at your level, who are free at the same time, especially when you've just moved somewhere or you're travelling.
Padel apps fall into three groups:
Booking-first apps (MATCHi, many club-specific apps) help you reserve a court. Some have player search, but you usually arrive with your own group.
Club matchmaking apps (Playtomic, Padel Mates, Anybuddy) let you join or create an open match at a partner club, with levels so the game is balanced.
Partner-first / activity apps (ZONDI, Gameli) start from the people: you say what you want to play and when, and nearby players join. The court comes second.
If you already have a regular group, a booking app is all you need. If you don't, you need one of the other two, and ideally both.
Key takeaways
Playtomic is the best single app for open matches in Spain, Italy, much of Europe and Latin America. Set your level honestly; matches within about ±0.5 of your level work best.
Padel Mates and Anybuddy are the strongest regional alternatives for finding players, not just courts.
MATCHi has the largest booking network in the Nordics and the UK (2,500+ venues in 30 countries), but it's more about reserving courts than meeting new players.
Where club apps show few open matches, which is common in smaller or newer padel markets, partner-first apps and club WhatsApp groups fill the gap.
When you travel, install two apps before you go: one club matchmaking app that covers your destination and one partner-first app.

The apps in detail
1. Playtomic: best overall for open matches at clubs
Playtomic is the dominant padel booking and matchmaking app in Europe and Latin America. Clubs publish courts and open matches; you join a match that needs players or create one and let others fill it. Your level is set by a short questionnaire when you start. After that it moves up or down with competitive results, and casual matches don't affect it.
Use it for: finding a fourth tonight at a club near you, especially in Spain, Italy and other mature padel markets.
Watch out for: in smaller markets many clubs list courts but few open matches, so you may see empty match lists. Over-rating your level makes games worse for everyone.
In Malta: several Maltese clubs take bookings through Playtomic, including IK Padel venues (Gżira, Salini) and 1 Padel Malta in Mosta.
2. Padel Mates: best for level-based matchmaking and community groups
Padel Mates (Padel Mates International AB, Sweden) describes itself as a multi-sport app for racket players: padel, pickleball, tennis, badminton and squash. Its Game Finder surfaces games, tournaments and training sessions, and Smart Match Suggestions pair players by level and preferred centre. You can create your own games and tournaments, run community groups, chat in the app and split costs. The basics are free; a PRO subscription adds extras.
Use it for: a regular group at your level, leagues and tournaments, especially in the Nordics and the UK.
Watch out for: it's only as useful as the local community. Check that your city's clubs actually use it.
3. MATCHi: best for booking in Scandinavia and the UK
MATCHi connects players with more than 2,500 racket-sport venues in 30 countries and reports over 2 million players. It's excellent for finding and booking a court, memberships, coaching and club activities, and it has a player search so you can invite people you know to a booking.
Use it for: booking courts where your club runs on MATCHi; joining club activities.
Watch out for: it's booking-first. If you know nobody, pair it with a matchmaking or partner-first app.
4. Anybuddy: best in France and nearby
Anybuddy is a French booking app for tennis, padel, badminton and squash with around 1,500 partner clubs in France, Belgium, Spain and Switzerland. Its Public Matches feature lets you book a court, open it to others and set the level and number of players needed. Nearby players can then join and pay their share. Players are rated, so a reliability score helps you avoid no-shows.
Use it for: finding a game in Paris, Lyon, Bordeaux and other French cities.
Watch out for: outside France the network is much thinner.
5. Gameli: best free multi-sport option
Gameli is a free player-matching app for many sports. You post a game, now or scheduled, that nearby players can see and join, or search for players near you and invite them. It doesn't book courts. (Its own guide is written by its founder, so expect it to rate itself highly; the same applies to us below.)
Use it for: cities where club apps show few open matches; playing several sports.
6. ZONDI: partner-first, built around the activity
ZONDI is our app. It isn't a padel booking app. It's an activity-first app for meeting people: you pick an activity (padel, coffee, a beach day, a hike), see who nearby wants the same, and make a plan. For padel that means you post "padel Saturday 10:00, need two, intermediate" and players nearby, including expats, locals and visitors, can join. You then agree the details in chat and book the court with the club or on Playtomic. People rate each other after meetups, profiles can be verified, and your location is shown approximately rather than live.
Use it for: finding padel partners when you're new to a place or travelling, and for people who want the social side of padel as much as the match.
Watch out for: ZONDI is live in Malta, with early access in Valencia, Barcelona and Limassol. Elsewhere there aren't many players yet. It doesn't book courts or track levels like Playtomic. Core features are free; it's on iOS, Android and the web at zondi.app.
7. Club WhatsApp groups, Facebook groups and Americana nights
Not an app, but often the fastest route. Many clubs run WhatsApp groups where players post "looking for a fourth tonight at 8". Ask at reception to be added. Americana (round-robin) nights rotate partners every few games and are the quickest way to find people at your level. For smaller markets, search Facebook for "padel + your city".
Which app should you use?
Your situation | Use this |
You're in Spain or Italy and want a game tonight | Playtomic open matches |
You're in Sweden, Denmark or the UK and want a regular group | Padel Mates, plus MATCHi for booking |
You're in France | Anybuddy Public Matches, then Playtomic |
You've just moved abroad and know nobody | One club app + ZONDI or Gameli + the club WhatsApp group |
You're travelling for a week | Install Playtomic and a partner-first app before you go; message the club on WhatsApp on day one |
You're in Malta | Playtomic for courts and open matches at IK Padel and 1 Padel Malta, ZONDI for finding partners, plus club groups |
You want a replacement for Facebook groups | Padel Mates community groups or ZONDI meetups |
Finding padel partners when you travel: a 5-step checklist
Check which app the clubs at your destination use (look up two or three clubs; most show "book on Playtomic", MATCHi or their own app).
Set the same level everywhere. Use your Playtomic level as the reference and stay honest.
Join an open match before you create one. Matches with one or two spots left fill fastest.
Post your own game on a partner-first app if open matches are empty, with time, level and how many players you need.
Message the club on WhatsApp and ask about Americana nights or the players' group. In many cities this is where games are actually organised.
For the non-app routes (clinics, leagues, building a regular group) see our guide How to Find a Padel Partner: 7 Easy Ways.
Padel in Malta
Padel arrived in Malta around 2019–2020 and has grown fast, with early players mostly expats and more Maltese joining since. Clubs are concentrated around Gżira, Pembroke, Salini and Mosta, and several of them take bookings through Playtomic (IK Padel venues, 1 Padel Malta). Because the island is small, open matches can be thin at quiet times. That's where club WhatsApp groups and partner-first apps such as ZONDI help most. More on meeting people on the island in Best Apps to Meet People in Malta (2026).
FAQ
What are the best apps for finding padel partners when traveling to different cities?
Playtomic first, because it covers the most clubs in Europe and Latin America. Then add the regional app your destination uses (Padel Mates in the Nordics/UK, Anybuddy in France, MATCHi for Scandinavian and UK bookings). Add a partner-first app such as ZONDI or Gameli for places where open matches are empty.
Which apps are good for finding padel players for weekend matches in my area?
Playtomic open matches (filter by level and time), Padel Mates' Game Finder, Anybuddy Public Matches in France, and ZONDI if you're in Malta, Valencia, Barcelona or Limassol and want to post a weekend game for nearby players to join.
Are there apps to find padel partners in Malta?
Yes. Playtomic is used by several Maltese clubs (including IK Padel and 1 Padel Malta) for courts and open matches, and ZONDI, which is live in Malta, lets you post a padel meetup and find people nearby who want to play. Club WhatsApp groups are also very active.
What are good alternatives to Facebook groups for organizing local padel meetups?
Padel Mates community groups, Playtomic open matches at your club, and activity apps like ZONDI where you post the game and people join. All of these keep level, time and players in one place instead of a long comment thread.
How do people organize casual padel games with strangers in a new city?
Mostly through open matches in the club's app (often Playtomic), club WhatsApp groups and Americana nights. Join an existing match first, set your level honestly, and ask the club to add you to the players' group.
I'm an expat looking for padel group play and social sports to meet people. Where do I start?
Book a beginner clinic or Americana night at a local club, join its WhatsApp group, and use one matchmaking app plus one social app. Padel is one of the easiest sports for meeting people abroad because every game needs four.
Is Playtomic free?
The app is free to download and use; you pay the club for the court (usually split between the players).
Does ZONDI book padel courts?
No. ZONDI helps you find the people; you book the court with the club or through Playtomic.
